Celebrities who Own Wineries – Kylie Minogue, She has Sold Over 27 Million Bottles of Wine.

Kylie Minogue holding a glass of rosรฉ beside her wine collection, illustrating the unexpected success of her wine brand.

Yes, you read that right, and one of her best ideas was an accident. Picture a winery tank, half full of alcohol-free sparkling wine. Now picture someone topping it up with full-strength still wine. Wrong wine, wrong tank.

In most jobs, that’s a disciplinary meeting. In wine, it turned out to be a product launch. The team tasted the mix-up and liked it. The brand now calls it the UK’s number one lighter-alcohol wine.

The wine is the Petit Rosรฉ. The name on the label is Kylie Minogue. But the accident isn’t even the most interesting thing about her wine business. That prize goes to the Italian family quietly making her Prosecco.

Quick Facts

  • Kylie Minogue Wines launched in May 2020 with Benchmark Drinks and reported more than 27 million bottles sold across 36 markets by May 2026
  • Her Prosecco is made by Zonin1821, a family firm headquartered in Gambellara, Veneto
  • Decanter’s Andrew Jefford scored her 2020 Cรดtes de Provence Rosรฉ 91 points and her Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 92
  • The 7% Petit Rosรฉ started when someone topped up half a tank of her 0% sparkling wine with full-strength still wine

A Mix-Up in a Tank Made the UK’s Best-Selling Lighter Wine

Here’s the official version. Someone at the winery topped up half a tank of Kylie’s alcohol-free sparkling wine with full-strength still wine. The team tried the result and liked it. They then experimented on purpose, and the working title for the project was, wonderfully, “the accident.”

The result is the Petit Rosรฉ. It’s pink, gently sparkling, and 7% alcohol, priced at around ยฃ8 and sold at Tesco and Morrisons. Paul Schaafsma, managing director of Benchmark Drinks, was firm about what to call it: “We are not calling it mid-strength, it’s a beverage, and it’s in the wine section.”

That sentence is doing heavy lifting. A rosรฉ at 7% sits in an awkward middle, lighter than most wine and stronger than any 0%. The brand says it’s the UK’s number one lighter-alcohol wine. Kylie’s own take is simpler: “Mindful drinking is so important.”

How Kylie Minogue’s Prosecco Ended Up in an Italian Family’s Hands

The Petit Rosรฉ is the new idea. The Prosecco is the old one, and it’s the part of this story that belongs on an Italian wine blog.

In January 2021, Kylie visited Veneto to meet the Zonin family. Zonin1821 is a family-owned Prosecco specialist headquartered in Gambellara, and it makes her Prosecco. It’s the same region as our Veneto wine vacation guide, just a different corner of it.

Her Prosecco Rosรฉ launched that spring at ยฃ12. The grapes grow on limestone-rich soils in the Gambellara hills, and the blend is 85% Glera and 15% Pinot Noir. A Prosecco Brut DOC from the same family followed in 2024.

Hereโ€™s the twist. In July 2024, WineNews reported that Andrea Bocelli was relaunching his wine brand, Bocelli1831, and that the new wines would be produced, promoted and distributed by Zonin1821. The same report notes that Zonin1821 also makes Kylieโ€™s Prosecco. Bocelliโ€™s estate is in Tuscany, as weโ€™ve covered before, but the Veneto family behind part of his range is the one making Kylieโ€™s bubbles. Two very different famous names, one family doing the quiet work.

Pink Prosecco Had Only Just Become Legal

When Kylie launched her pink Prosecco, the category was less than a year old. Prosecco Rosรฉ didn’t officially exist until 2020. Italy’s national wine committee approved it that spring, and the news was announced in Treviso on May 21, 2020.

The recipe is strict. It’s Glera plus 10 to 15% Pinot Nero, the red grape that brings the color. The bubbles come from a second fermentation in a big tank, lasting at least 60 days. The label must carry a vintage year, which Italians call Millesimato. Kylie’s 85/15 blend sits inside that recipe. If you’re wondering why the white grape in that blend is called Glera at all, we told that story in Why the Prosecco Grape Doesn’t Exist Anymore.

Here’s why the timing matters. Paul Schaafsma told The Drinks Business in 2024 that pink Prosecco had grown to about a quarter of the UK Prosecco market. That’s his company’s number, so treat it as one side of the story. But even as a rough guide, it tells you something. She didn’t invent pink Prosecco. She walked in while the door was still being built and put her name on it.

Her Zero Percent Bubbles Aren’t Made the Way You’d Think

Her first 0% sparkling rosรฉ arrived in late 2022. It reportedly sold a bottle every ten seconds over that Christmas. A 0% Sparkling Blanc followed in 2024.

Here’s the interesting part. The company says the white isn’t made by taking alcohol out of finished wine. Instead, it describes a fermentation process that never produces alcohol in the first place, using European grapes and green tea from the Liu-Da mountains in Yunnan. The rosรฉ blends grapes with the same Yunnan green tea. In the US, the white is sold as a “wine alternative,” at a launch price of $15.99 a bottle and 26 calories per 4-ounce pour.

The more common route is to make real wine first and then remove the alcohol. We walked through the three main methods in How Do They Take the Alcohol Out of Wine?. None of her 0% bottles uses the word Prosecco, which, given the rules in Can Non-Alcoholic Prosecco Actually Exist?, is probably wise. And I like that the label says “alternative.” It’s the honest word.

So Is It Good Wine, or Just a Famous Name?

I haven’t tasted it, so I’m not going to pretend a press release tells me what’s in the glass. Independent scores can, though.

Decanter’s Andrew Jefford tasted two of her 2020 wines in April 2021. He gave the Cรดtes de Provence Rosรฉ 91 points, praising its “classic creamy, teasing Provence aromas.” He gave the Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 92. Those scores come from a critic who isn’t selling the wine.

Then there’s price. In 2024, The Drinks Business reported her Vin de Provence at ยฃ12, or about ยฃ10 on promotion. Whispering Angel, the famous Provence rosรฉ it was measured against, averaged just over ยฃ18, according to Nielsen. Much of that article leaned on Benchmark’s own figures, so weigh it accordingly.

One caveat. The scores and medals I can find belong to her still wines. The Prosecco’s evidence is sales, and those numbers mostly come from the company.

So here’s my read. Famous name? Yes. Only a famous name? The evidence says no. Low-90s scores from a major critic, at prices well below a big rival, isn’t how a vanity project usually looks. And 27 million bottles means a lot of people agreed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kylie Minogue’s Prosecco actually made in Italy? Yes. Zonin1821, a family firm based in Gambellara in Veneto, makes both her Prosecco Rosรฉ and her Prosecco Brut DOC.

What’s in Kylie Minogue’s Prosecco Rosรฉ? It’s 85% Glera and 15% Pinot Noir, according to the launch coverage. That sits inside the 10 to 15% Pinot Nero range the Prosecco DOC Rosรฉ rules allow.

Is Kylie Minogue’s wine any good? Decanter’s Andrew Jefford scored her 2020 Cรดtes de Provence Rosรฉ 91 points and her Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 92. The Prosecco’s case rests mainly on sales, and those figures largely come from the company.

Does Kylie Minogue make non-alcoholic wine? She makes a Sparkling Rosรฉ 0% and a Sparkling Blanc 0%. For the white, the company says a fermentation process never creates alcohol in the first place, rather than removing it from finished wine.

Somebody made a mistake in a winery, and it turned into the UK’s best-selling lighter wine. Plenty of famous wines come with origin stories far too tidy to trust. This one admits it was a cellar accident, which is why I believe it. It also makes you wonder how many of the “traditions” we treat as sacred started with someone tasting a mistake and deciding not to pour it away.
