50 Cent loses $175,000 bid on a bottle of wine

On the 9th of May 2021, Curtis Jackson, popularly known as 50 Cent broke the internet when he made a post about the rich Texans, because he lost a $175,000 bid at a wine auction.

This happened at the 2021 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition, and the wine he was bidding for was the 9-litre bottle of  Alexander Valley Vineyards CYRUS, Alexander Valley, 2014 which won the Grand Champion Best of Show, and it was finally sold for $200,000. The winning bid made was made by a group of friends – Lisa Blackwood, Randa and Ray Gilliam, Julie and Alan Kent, and Kristina and Paul Somerville. Sadly, the buzz on social media was negative, some fans accused 50 Cent of spending lavishly on a wine, they failed to realize that this auction was held to raise money for kids’ scholarships. The four time champion Cyrus wines, have now raised nearly $700,000 combined for scholarships and since its beginning in 1932, the Rodeo has committed more than $500 million to the youth of Texas and education.

Although 50 Cent failed in his bid for the Grand Champion Best of Show, his Le Chemin Du Roi Brut, Champagne AOC, NV, won this year’s Reserve Grand Champion Best of Show. It was purchased for $160,000 by Demetra and Frank Jones, and Leticia and Stephen Trauber.

50 Cent said – “When they told me I won, I almost fainted. I was really excited, I am very proud of this.”

Le Chemin du Roi Brut sells for about $160 per 750 ml bottle at retail, I promise to write more about this awesome wine in our next episode of “Celebrities who owns wineries” – click the subscribe button so you will be notified winks
