Sangria – Another Way to Enjoy Red Wine

Although, selling wine is my job, my major concern is how to help my customers enjoy wine, so here’s another hack in the world of wine, thanks to the Spaniards, we can now remix our red wines

Are you expecting guest and thinking of serving something different from the usual red wine, but your love for red wine wont just let you be, so here’s a beverage for you, Sangria. (read our blog post on how to drink red wine and truly experience it)

[bctt tweet=”Sangria is originated in Spain and its born from a simple recipe which consists of red wine” username=”TheFinestItali1″]and chopped fruit, often with other ingredients such as orange juice, cinnamon and brandy (if you want to increase the alcohol level).

There is no single recipe for sangria and everyone does it in its own way, but in general we can say the most important rule is that it should be served cold and prepared a little ‘early because all the flavors need time to mix before you serve.

Notes

  1. The Right Wine to use is key, so i will recommend a Young Red Wine
  2. Fruits: The original sangria is prepared with peaches, apples, orange and lemon. Then it stretches with orange juice. We advise you not to use the packaged one, but to squeeze fresh oranges.
There are many variations of the sangria in which other types of fruit can also be used like strawberries, pineapples, nectarines, berries, pears and melon.
  3. Spies: The perfume of spices must not be lacking in perfect sangria.
Add in the preparation, a pinch of cinnamon or a stick of vanilla, but without exaggerating so as not to alter the taste

Recipe

At this point we explain the recipe step by step.
First, cut the apples and peaches, in tiny cubes and slice the oranges and lemons quite thinly and put them in a large glass container, pour the wine and mix it with 120 gr of sugar, like i said, there is no one single recipe so you may or may not need sugar because the fruit already sweetens, it all depends if you want it extra sweet. If you love spices, you can add a pinch of cinnamon or a stick of vanilla . Then add the orange or lemon juice and 50 gr of cointreau or brandy and let it macerate for one night, or for a few hours, in the refrigerator.

How to serve

Sangria is served in a glass cup with or without the fruits in it, with ice, you can also garnish the glass with a tuft of mint and an orange slice with a straw.

Sangria: mistakes not to do and advice to follow

Just a few suggestions on how best to enjoy Sangria

  • [bctt tweet=”do not serve sangria at room temperature” username=”TheFinestItali1″]
  • do not serve sangria as if it were a fruit salad with wine
  • avoid letting macerate the sangria with fruits that tend to “soften” , like strawberries, overripe peaches … do not put the banana! In the end, serve them at the last in the glass
  • remember that even if it is a low-alcoholic and very refreshing drink …. it is still alcoholic 😉
