A Girl from Nigeria, a Bottle of Italian Wine, and a Love Story Nobody Saw Coming

I didn’t grow up drinking wine.

Growing up in Nigeria, wine was always around — at celebrations, at family gatherings, at every occasion worth marking. But it was always just… there. Something you drank without really thinking about it. Nobody talked about the region it came from or the grapes behind it. You poured it, you enjoyed it, and you moved on.

I never thought to ask questions. Until Italy handed me a reason to.

In 2013, I packed up my life and relocated to Italy to join my husband. New country. New language. New everything.

And on one of my very first days here, someone handed me a bottle of Fior d’Arancio.

Now if you’ve never heard of Fior d’Arancio — first of all, we need to fix that immediately, and second of all, imagine this: a wine that smells like orange blossom, tastes like sunshine and honey, and makes you feel like Italy just gave you a hug and said welcome, you’re going to be fine here. That’s Fior d’Arancio. A beautiful, delicate sparkling dessert wine from the Veneto region, made from Moscato Giallo grapes, and it is unlike anything I had ever tasted in my life.

One sip and I was gone.

Not just for the wine — but for the story behind it. The region it came from. The grapes, the people, the history. I started asking questions and I couldn’t stop. What else was out there? What other wines was Italy hiding? How had I lived this long without knowing any of this?

That curiosity never left me. It just grew into a blog.

Why I Started Writing

Italy has over 350 officially recognised grape varieties. Three hundred and fifty. There are wines being made in tiny villages that will never see the inside of a supermarket. There are families who have been tending the same vines for five, six, seven generations. There are bottles that will genuinely change the way you think about wine — if someone just takes the time to tell you about them.

I wanted to be that someone.

Not as an expert with a sommelier certificate and a complicated vocabulary. Just as a woman who moved to Italy from Nigeria, fell completely in love with wine, and has been exploring it with wide eyes and an open glass ever since.

That’s The Finest Italian Wine. My love letter to this country and everything it pours into a bottle.

What You’ll Find Here

Italy is the heart of this blog — the regions, the grapes, the culture, the food, the producers, the stories. But wine is a big world and we don’t stay inside borders.

You’ll find:

  • Celebrity winery drama — because yes, famous people own vineyards and the stories are fantastic
  • Italian regional guides — from Veneto to Tuscany to Sicily, we go deep
  • Food and wine pairings that actually make sense for real meals
  • Honest wine reviews — no sponsored opinions, ever
  • Wine facts that will make you the most interesting person at dinner
  • Travel guides for anyone who wants to experience wine country firsthand

No jargon. No snobbery. No making you feel like you need a degree to enjoy a glass of wine.

Who Is This For?

You, if you’ve ever stood in a wine shop completely overwhelmed and grabbed whatever had the prettiest label. You, if you’ve always been curious about wine but never knew where to start. You, if you already love wine and just want to love it even more.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, this blog was written for you. The only thing you need to bring is curiosity.

The wine, we’ll sort out together.

A Note on Honesty

Everything here comes from real experience. Real tastings, real travels, real opinions. Nobody pays me to recommend a wine. If it’s wonderful, I’ll tell you exactly why. If it’s not, I’ll tell you that too — probably with a joke because life is too short for bad wine and bad moods.
